Lots of Books!

Recently there seems to be a lot of books on SM being published or in the writing stages which is definitely a good thing. The more books there are out there, the more likely is that SM will become a well-known disorder like autism which would benefit not only those living with selective mutism but also help the family and friends around them to understand it a little better.

I’ve only recently started being open and writing about my experience with SM and I’ll be writing a little bit for a couple of the books. I know a few of you will be too and I’m excited to read the final books when they’re finished. Although everyone is different there’s been many times when someone has said or mentioned something about their SM that I thought they could have been talking about me because my experience was so similar. In a way it’s nice to have something in common for once instead of being the odd one out!

I have three or four books so far to feature in the magazine; if you’re writing or have published a book and would like it in the magazine please let me know and I can add it in.

Talking of books, Tom E. Neely’s kindle version of his book Mary-Ellen O’Keefe’s Word-Speaking Diet will be available for free download on November 7, 8, & 9th. It’s about a girl who has trouble speaking at school. I’ve read it and it’s a great little book; I’m sure there are lots of children, parents and teachers who can relate to it.

"I recommend you for your hard work in 'spreading the word' about SM. I am encouraged by the rise of interest in the condition over the 21 years of SMIRA's existence, which, I am sure, is due, in no small part, to the efforts of the organisation in raising the profile of this disorder. The more ways that people can learn about it, the better."
