Inspiring People

In the last issue we interviewed Nathan, a 16-year-old with SM who had entered into a singing competition. Although he still struggles with conversation he says that when he is singing he feels like another person; confident and in control.

Sometimes if we’re struggling it helps a little to know that there are people out there like Nathan. If he can sing in front of a crowd full of people there’s hope for the rest of us! It’s encouraging to hear about people with SM who are not only dealing with SM but facing it head on, and winning.

I’m hoping to get more inspiring people to interview for futures issues and have a couple lined up so keep an eye out for updates! It would be great if you could also send in suggestions of who you would like to see in future issues of the magazine. Is there someone who inspires you? Have you heard someone mentioned who you would like to know more about? Please let me know!

There’s less than a month to go now until the deadline for submissions for the next issue. If you would like to send anything in please send it over before the 15th February.

Thanks all and have a great week

"I recommend you for your hard work in 'spreading the word' about SM. I am encouraged by the rise of interest in the condition over the 21 years of SMIRA's existence, which, I am sure, is due, in no small part, to the efforts of the organisation in raising the profile of this disorder. The more ways that people can learn about it, the better."
